Volunteer with North Korean students!

PSCORE is a non-profit, non-religious, non-partisan NGO in Seoul, South Korea working for the reunification of the Korean peninsula. PSCORE is comprised of young North Korean defectors who are now attending college or have recently graduated from college in South Korea, native South Korean college students, and foreigners who share a common interest and passion for the reunification of the Korean peninsula, North Korean human rights issues, and are in favor of North Korean defectors becoming self-supporting individuals.

As part of the effort to promote education and activities for North Korean refugees in South Korea, PSCORE runs an annual three-day Global English Camp for North Korean university students, South Korean facilitators, and foreign English teachers. The camp focuses on English-language instruction and aims to provide an environment where North Koreans, South Koreans, and international teachers can engage in the discussion of topics such as reunification and the future of North Korea. In addition to improving English and facilitating discussion, the Global English Camp seeks to enhance North Korean refugees’ understanding of democratic systems through organized lessons and a mock election.

PSCORE is currently recruiting several volunteer native English speakers to serve as Lead Instructors and Assistant Instructors at this year’s Global English Camp.
— The Lead Instructor will act as the primary instructor for any English or democracy-based lessons and will be responsible for the planning and preparation of both a cultural exchange activity as well as a campaign for their team in the mock election.
— The Assistant Instructor will facilitate classroom activities, act as a “right-hand man” for their assigned Lead Instructor, and organize their team’s act for the talent show to be held on the final day.
This year’s Global English Camp runs from June 25-27, 2010. PSCORE asks volunteers to contribute a minimum donation of 10,000 won in order to help cover the cost of food and other expenses for the weekend.
