Online Workshop
PSCORE’s 2020 Online Workshop facilitates a thorough discussion central around five different topics. Our participants come from all around the world, but they share a common interest in the Korean reunification matter.
Our workshop’s primary objective is to provide a safe platform which enables young people from different nationalities to engage in an open dialogue in the hope to widen their perspectives on the multifaceted nature of the Korean Peninsula and the issues it is currently facing.
This workshop took place over several sessions where participants discussed their views and debated solutions among an international cohort including North Korean defectors. This opportunity allowed for participants to be party to a poignant workshop, gaining a deeper understanding of the various impacts of the division of North and South Korea, as well as hopefully inspiring participants to take part in further action to assist the cause of millions of North Koreans suffering both within and outside of their country.

North and South Korea are facing many challenges when it comes to communication. Particularly since both countries have drastically shifted politically,culturally and economically away from one another . The division and its consequences have caused both countries and their population to evolve very differently since the separation and the end of the Korean War which makes it difficult for both countries to maintain a dialogue regarding their relationship and the possibility of reunification.
This group discussion focuses on how North and South Korea would be able to overcome a seventy year long separation during reunification and the political social and economic ramifications that peaceful reunification would still require. In this instance both countries would still have to agree to fully cooperate with one another.
Although North and South Korea shared a culture and history for thousands of years, the division of Korea has led to sharp and drastic differences in terms of practices, values, and lifestyle. In order for reunification to be successful, similarities and differences need to be acknowledged and even celebrated, whilst holding on to the ties that held the Korean Peninsula together for so long.
The Korean Peninsula has changed rapidly in the last 70 years. Although reunification is possible, it is important to consider the circumstances in which it may occur, as well as the positive and negative aspects of such a significant and pivotal event.
North Korea’s harrowing abuse of the basic human rights of its citizens on a daily basis is widely reported. As such, when approaching the topic of human rights abuse in North Korea, it is important to consider cultural factors, both historic and modern, and to be respectful of the harsh reality of humanitarians’ struggles beyond the news story.
