On July 4th, 2017, we were fortunate enough to hold a well-received event on the human rights situation in North Korea. The room was full of a diverse group of adults, many of whom were visiting college students from Leiden University in the Netherlands. This crowd was able to hear the rare perspective of a North Korean elite who has defected to South Korea. In sharing the story of his life in North Korea and what drove him to defect from his home country our speaker shared his views on several topics such as the loyalty of the elite class in North Korea, the effects of not allowing 99.99% of North Korea’s citizens to have access to the internet, and North Korea’s fixation on nuclear weapons. All these topics sparked a lively conversation and several amazing questions from our audience during the Q&A section of the event.
We appreciate our speaker and the unique perspective he was able to give on several important topics related to the North Korean human rights crisis. We would also like to thank everyone who came to this event and those who donated to our organization.
