International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR): was opened for signature at New York on the 19th December, 1966. The Government of the DPRK sent a notification of withdrawal in August 1997. The Secretary-General rejected the request in September 1997 as such a withdrawal could only be achieved with the consent of all other signatory states.

Convention in the Rights of the Child (CRC): was adopted on the 20th November, 1989 at the 44th session of the General Assembly of the UN in New York and ratified by the DPRK on the 23rd August, 1990.
Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW): was opened for signature at the UN Headquarters on the 1st March, 1980.
