On Wednesday, August 31st, 2011 PSCORE celebrated two years of it’s Wednesday evening Educational Program for North Korean Defectors at an event held at Seoul’s Seodaemun Police Station.

The event was attended by the Chief of Police Sung-Che Jeong, Min Jung Kang – Senior Program Officer UC (University of California) EAP Korea , volunteer teachers, North Korean students, members of the press and PSCORE staff.

During the event PSCORE Executive Director Young Il Kim gave a speech highlighting the success of the Educational Program and congratulating its participants. Chief of Police Sung-Che Jeong received an award for his interest and support in the program while volunteer teachers were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for their interest in the education of North Korean defectors and their contributions to their integration into South Korean society. Min Jung Kang accepted a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of UC’s EAP Korea.

The University of California’s Education Abroad Program Korea, supports PSCORE’s initiative by sending exchange students who help as volunteer teachers. At this year’s anniversary event, the North Korean language students received scholarships for their future studies. Volunteer teachers and students also shared their experiences of the program. Our Wednesday English Education Program is aimed at the education of North Korean defectors and their integration into South Korean society. Classes are held every Wednesday evening at Seoul’s Seodaemun Police Station from 6:30-8:00pm.
